A look back at a particularly big event for the INCITE project: the inauguration of the enzymatic esterification plant in Oelegem, Belgium
What is INCITE?
INCITE is a project funded by the European Commission as part of the flagship objectives of SPIRE 2030. Its success relies on the effective industrial implementation of intensified enzymatic process technologies in the commodity and specialty chemicals industry in Europe and at a larger scale. The project aims to develop novel upstream and downstream processing technology to make them available to the industry.
In the framework of the INCITE project, were made in an agrochemical track and an oleochemical track, whose units were inaugurated in June, 15th 2023.
A guided tour allowed the attendees to visit the units and understand the enzymatic transformation process. with a capacity of 3000 tonnes of esters, this olechemical plant reduces CO2 emissions by more than 40% and reduce waste by 60%, compared to traditional ways of production.
What next ?
The INCITE project team is still working for two major events:
- The international workshop “Unlocking the potential of enzymatic process technologies in industrial chemical production: case of the INCITE project” to be held at IFIB in Firenze (Italy), on September 29, 2023. Whose objective is to engage with bioeconomy stakeholders to share the results of the project.
- The inauguration of the agrochemical track plant at the end of the year in Ravenna (Italy).
